I’ve been carrying around the Osprey Farpoint 40 backpack for seven months now. Linds has the sister pack: the Osprey Fairview 40. Bottom line: we love them. Here’s why:
- they’re durable
- they’re comfortable
- they’re the maximum carry-on size for most airlines (40L)
- they have a clam-shell design, which means that the zipper goes almost all the way down so the whole compartment is accessible
- they are simple: one main compartment that should be organized with packing cubes (in our opinion)
- one front compartment for a laptop
- one top compartment for odds and ends (the backpack junk drawer)
- straps can be zipped inside a flap in case you need to check the bag – nothing to catch on baggage carousels
- big, comfortable handles on the top and side as alternatives to the shoulder straps
These packs are a simple and effective solution to a simple problem: getting your stuff comfortably and securely from point A to B. And they do this very well.
